4-15-22 Update-  All support braces are now in place and next week they work on the lower floor and then the upper floor attaching the ladders as well. They will then paint the frame after they get the welding inspections done for Richland Cty.

After that, they will do the outside metal stud clanning for plywood attachment for the brick facade and the ground floor room.
Foot plates will be welded on next week and the top apex ( I assume clock itself framing) will be started as well.

March 2022 update= Hopefully we are past the pademic's worst for materials. Things have started and things have started to move as steel is being welded and the framework is being put together.. We are still taking donations, selling pavers and books. If you are interested, now is the time to help.
10-30-2021 update- The steel is in and being processed for welding. That means it is being looked at for straight material and make any adjustments for that. Now that we are moving it is still going to be slow as other materials are slow in coming in such as copper, balusters etc. The pandemic is slowing everything down. We are continuing to sell brick pavers until further notice as we still strive to hit our goal. You can still purchase a Rediscovering Willard history book as well, but those are down to just a few left. We are also still accepting straight donations as well. Look at the tab/page sections on how to make a donation or order a paver or book. Thank you for your donations and patience. But its also time to get excited as we continue to move forward.
6-7-21--Our Clock company was in town this morning to take one last look at the foundation for the clock tower. Today was to confirm everything is a go. We do have a delay with material on the tower, so we have a new delivery date of Late September. Due to delays with material, labor and delivery of material things are backlogged across the country. But she is coming. Make that donation today and help us reach our goal to complete the project once she is standing. Buy a brick paver online at this link-https://www.thatsmybrick.com/willardctc or buy a Willard, Ohio Recollecting History book ($30) from our participating store fronts in Willard, Sutton Bank at 224 and Main street, CENTURY 21 Danhoff-Donnamiller Realty or Don Graham and Associates downtown. Mick O'Brien, Don Shrader and Don Leininger also have them for sale, and we can mail them out with $10 postage added.  You can also make a straight donation by making checks out to Save Willards Clock and mailing to
PO Box 367 Willard, Ohio 44890.
3-25-21- It has started.  The footer is in. Concrete is poured and form boards taken off. We have one more concrete pour to fill in the center area. Clock Tower is in line and set to begin actual build at the factory in a couple weeks after they finish two other projects they are currently building. Glass entry door has been ordered, facade bricks chosen and ready to be purchased. Still have pavers being sold and books. Buy them now! Movin Willard forward! Energize Willard! THE TIME HAS COME! Engage in the future and help move Willard! We are waiting for you!
                                                 Hello to all.  Update 2-28-2021
First off we'd like to Thank You all ! --- Those who have donated to this project or did a sponsorship or helped raise money. It is much appreciated!

Here is our latest update on where we are in our Save Willard's Clock project.

As of January 2021 we have received our permits to start the build and have contacted Americlock in St. Louis to tell them they can start building. Permits have been paid for, down payment has been made and we have chosen our brick color for the façade. and our plan seems to be coming together. That's not to say we won't be making cuts where and when needed. We did not meet the complete goal for fundraising and you can still be part of this for your hometown. You don't even have to be part or have connections to Willard if you want to help. Straight donations can be made by check to Save Willard's Clock and mailed to PO Box 367 Willard, Ohio 44890.

You can still buy a brick paver at out paver website at this address online. Click on the Brick Paver button below or go to---https://www.thatsmybrick.com/willardctc. And crete your brick paver and pay online for it. It's easy!

We do have a few Rediscovering History books left at $30 each. Add $10 to that if you want it mailed somewhere. Contact us at the e-mail below here for more info. We expect the books to be completely sold out by summer 2021. So hurry if you want one.

  1. Willard Residents- September 4, 2020.  Time for an update on the Clock Tower project!  It has been a busy and yet a slow year due to Covid-19. Toward the end of 2019 the clock committee chose a new clock company to help us move forward with the build.  They provided new technical drawings of the clock tower and foundation, and we have now applied for a building permit.  We are now in the second phase of the permitting process, after the building enforcement agency wanted clarification on several points. Once we receive a building permit, it will be GAME ON!  Once we have that, we will start on the foundation work and at the same time tell the clock company to start the clock tower build in St. Louis.  Brick pavers will be ordered as well.  Within 5-6 months of that start time, the clock tower should be completed and trucked into Willard in one or two pieces on a flat-bed semi-truck trailer.  After a few days, we should have the clock tower standing on its foundation, in working condition in skeleton form. The clock body will look like It did in 1913 on a skeleton body/legs.  We then start working on the brick facade install.  Unfortunately, all of this is weather dependent and Covid-19 which has slowed everything down.  Please note, the clock is not fully funded, and we are still accepting donations. Our goal was $300,000, and today we stand at $275,000.  It’s been a long time coming, but it will go up, it will be working, and we know you will love it.  The Save Willard’s Clock committee has worked hard to make this dream a reality.  Thanks to Don Graham, Don Shrader, Mick O’Brien, Don Leininger, Kevin Casto, Bryson Hamons, Ricky Braham, City Administration (times four) and a slew of others men and women for their hard work and dedication to our hometown.  Willard has a lot to be proud of. Especially of this small local group of men and women who have been part of this planning committee. They have worked extremely hard for this to be completed from the fund-raising, to their time, their own money and their contacts to make this happen. It’s all to save some history. The BIGGER PICTURE is to encourage revitalization downtown, using that history as a catalyst for rebuilding an economic engine to drive things in Willard. To drive new business, store fronts, new residents and a new fresh thought process of WE CAN do this! The heart of our community is downtown, and this project lets, residents and business know, things CAN get done, but it will take a concentrated effort, time and some financial consideration from each person, business to make things happen. A city, no matter how big, cannot do things like this alone. It takes private partnership teaming up with the town to make things better for all. I invite the larger Willard corporations in the area to take a bigger role and more pride in our downtown and the whole area, join in when these projects pop up as they benefit you as well, maybe not now but down the road. Your leadership is needed!  I invite the 20, 30 and 40 somethings and small business owners to take a leadership role and show us your new ideas for the next 20 years from now. Their leadership is needed as well. For other updates and information on the clock you can go to our website savewillardsclock.com or on Facebook at Save Willards Clock. YOUR TIME IS NOW!

"Get Her Done"

Picture
From the Oct 30, 2017 Norwalk Reflector electronic paper. They used this photo
(see photo at bottom of page) for that days header. Nice view of the Park Depot rail cars and museum from another towns perspective. It took a small group of people from the Willard community to make this build happen in early to mid 1980s. (Old depot torn down 1976, new depot built 1980, Rails cars mid 1980s). Some of the names involved were Paul Capelle, Roy Doster, Gerald Lillo helped gather material from the depot tear down to rebuild this new depot using old bricks, beams and more. Todd Shininger was there and there were others involved. Things just don't happen, it isn't just given to anyone or any community. It took people with vision for this museum build after losing a chance to save the old depot downtown and to add these rail cars. The rail (cars) pieces almost didn't happen. See what can happen with community involvement from just a few people. NOW close your eyes and imagine this picture as bare ground with no history on it. Maybe just grass or field of weeds, maybe a home. Imagine Willard without the new reservoir off RT 61 or maybe no Midwest or LSC Communications formerly Donelley's). It took local people to make these things happen you have enjoyed all these years! See what this brings to Willard? Looks nice right? I bet you have been there for a reunion or park get together and looked through the history of your town. Think what we can all do if we teamed up together for Willard history. Small communities across the country are working to save history and use it to rebuild their towns to bring in new business, people and improve life. When we go on vacation we go to places that usually saved old buildings for restaurants, places we take a tour of or even stay in as hotels. You get the picture. It will never happen without locals changing the attitudes and open their minds toward change in this manner. Towns all around Willard have created small groups to improve their communities. They have done some things on small levels to improve working toward bigger things down the road. It's the way it is in the 2000s. Cities can't do it alone, they just don't have the funds to do this alone. It takes private business from those towns, manufacturing leadership, vision and PEOPLE to help. TEAM WORK is just a few hours a month, a skill set, ideas and doing things. All of us can give and hour or two each month to do something for Willard. We all know it isn't cheap either. Materials need bought and companies need paid to make things happen. Now here's the meat you have waited for. From talking with Don Graham this last week, we believe we are about 20 to $30,000 (from getting the clock tower up in working condition). Did I say working-again!! See attached photo of skeleton form. Phase two is the brick facade we are already working on. I have a small committee of locals that have worked as hard as they can for years to bring this to fruition for Willard as a whole. Many of their names have appeared on this facebook page and are known to you. They see the vision just like those who brought in MTD, LSC and new reservoir for everyone to enjoy and I mean everyone to enjoy. Why did those men and women in the past and those today do this? Because they love their hometown and want it to prosper. They have given time, their own money and more to this project for everyone. This can happen with you helping; I have always asked you all to be part of this, from kids that mow grass for part time money to companies that own and operate the largest manufacturing plants in town and the agriculture farms on the outskirts of Willard. Take ownership of it and do this as one. We ask for your help to finish this, we have given you options for donating, a monthly payment option with the Mike Hosler plan, a brick paver with two options on brick size to buy, a 600 page coffee table history of Willard book, straight donation and sock-hop dance. Ask us how or where to send a donation. Check out our web site and facebook pages for updates as they come in or to see where we started and more. Straight donations can be made to Save Willard's Clock and mailed to PO Box 367 Willard, Ohio 44890. THE TIME IS HERE, TO DONATE, TO SPONSOR, THE TIME IS NOW.
